GENERAL SKILL MIGRATION
INDEPENDENT MIGRANTS
People are selected on the basis of their education, skills
and work experience, and who are likely to contribute to the Australian
economy. They are not sponsored by employer or relative in Australia. This
group forms the largest contingent of skilled migrants each year. If your nominated occupation
is on the MODL (Migration Occupation in Demand List) you will stand a better chance of satisfying
the requirements under this class.

skills, age, English ability and other criteria solely on their own backgrounds
and be able to pass the points test.
Sub-Class - State/Territory Nominated Independent

nominated by a State or Territory government or employer through the skill
matching database.

defined, living in Australia) and an assurer who agrees to provide financial
support so that you will not have to rely on Government forms of support.
Sub-Class - Skilled Regional Sponsored - Under this
sub-class, the Australian Government is seeking skilled migrants to settle in
certain region of Australia where your relative resides. While you do not have
to pass the points test, you or your spouse must still satisfy the basic
requirements of age, English language, qualifications, nominated occupation and
recent work-experience, with certain exceptions.

is designed for potential skilled migrants whose sponsor lives outside the
designated areas except in Sydney, Gosford, Newcastle or Wollongong on the SOL and is points tested.

SKILL MATCHING

Sub-Class - Independent Overseas Student - This sub-class is for students whose occupations fetch 60 points in the SOL and able to achieve the Pass Mark.
Sub-Class - Designated Area Sponsored Overseas Students - Under this sub-class the designated State/Territory governments will be able to sponsor candidates who can only obtain the Pool Mark and be prepared to stay in the State/Territory for at least 2 years upon the grant of visa.

employer who has not been able to fill a vacancy from the local labour market
or by training and must be on the Employer Nomination Occupation List (ENOL) and
having worked for at least 2 years in the nominated occupation.
Sub-Class - Labour Agreement - This is an
agreement negotiated with employers, which allows recruitment of an agreed
number of overseas skilled workers subject to certain conditions. The
agreements provide for the permanent or temporary entry of workers with skills
in demand in certain industries.
Sub-Class - Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) - This sub-class
enables Australian employers in regional or low-growth areas to fill skilled
permanent vacancies with overseas personnel if they cannot find suitably
qualified workers in Australia.
DISTINGUISHED TALENT

with special or unique talents of benefit to Australia. The profile of people
who have been successful under this category generally include sports people,
musicians, artists and designers, all of whom were internationally recognized
